Northern Indian dance to be featured in Dec. 5 performance

Skidmore's Classical India Dance Class will perform with live musicians in a program scheduled at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, in the Dance Theater. Admission is free.

Devesh and Veena Chandra will accompany dance
students in a Dec. 5 program on campus.

The program will feature students performing Kathak Indian Dance, the story-telling dance of Northern India. Veena Chandra, a lecturer in Skidmore's Music Department, and her son, Devesh, will provide musical accompaniment . 

Sitarist Veena Chandrais a renowned musician,  composer, and choreographer. Known for her skill and sensitivity as a performer, Chandra has been praised for her ability to communicate the beauty and complexity of North Indian classical music to the western listener. 

Her son Devesh plays the tablas (drums) and often joins Veena in concert on campus and in the region.
