Classical guitarist Brett Grigsby to present solo recital
Brett Grigsby
A solo recital by classical guitarist Brett Grigsby, a member of Skidmore's Music Department faculty, is scheduled at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, in Zankel Music Center's Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
The program includes works by da Milano, Leo Brouwer, and Manuel Ponce, and arrangements
by Roland Dyens.
Grigsby found his love for the instrument while studying with Joel Brown at Skidmore.
Since then, Grigsby has concertized extensively in the United States and Canada, giving
audiences a heartfelt performance in both solo and chamber music settings.
He has participated as a solo recitalist in the Concert Series at the 92nd Street
Y, at St. Patrick's Cathedral, in an all-Bach program at Steinway Hall, and at the
esteemed concert series at St. Paul's Chapel in New York City. He is a co-founder
and member of his guitar duo A Piacere, and has performed at the International Festival
Domain Forget, where his duo and guitar quartet performed in conjunction with the
National Jazz Ballet Company of Montreal.
A 1992 Skidmore graduate, Grigsby received a master's degree in guitar performance
from the Mannes College of Music, where he studied with Peter Segal, Pat O'Brien,
Michael Newman, Ben Verdery, and Patrick Roux. Grigsby has performed in master class
settings for some of the world's leading guitar performers, such as Roberto Aussel,
Hubert Kappel, Andrew York, Bruce Holzman, and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.
Currently a member of the Skidmore faculty, Grigsby earlier taught at Lehigh University,
the College of St. Elizabeth, and Kean University.
