Brunswick to have Skidmore debut
Brunswick, the film by Nate Simms, head coach of Skidmore's men's tennis team, will have its Skidmore debut at 7 p.m. Monday, March 5, in Filene Recital Hall. Simms will answer questions about the movie following the screening.
The movie tells the story of a 90-year-old Brunswick farmer, small-town politics, and residential development. Set in Brunswick, N.Y., a small country town facing the challenge of balancing economic growth with the preservation of its rural character, the story is specific to Brunswick and yet recognizable to rural communities all over the United States. Brunswick had its regional premier in December at the Spectrum in Albany, and had several sold-out screenings there and at RPI.
After spending several years as a still photographer, Simms became involved in documentary film making. With film, he found a new medium for his ongoing interests in natural landscapes and land conservation. Simms continues to focus particularly on land use issues in Rensselaer County. A graduate of Middlebury College, Simms has lived in New York's Capital District for most of his life.
