NEW START TIME In Between a complex story of identity

March 4, 2012

Theater artist/educator Ibrahim Miari will present his solo show titled In Between in the Skidmore College Dance Theater at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6.

The event is the latest in Skidmore's Jacob Perlow Series of events at Skidmore, and is co-sponsored by the offices of Religious and Spiritual Life and Jewish Student Life.

In Between is a semi-autobiographical, 50-minute show that portrays the complexities and contradictions inherent in someone who grew up with a dual, Palestinian-Israeli identity. Miari's play recalls his childhood in Acco, memories of his Jewish and Palestinian grandmothers, of war, and of the struggle to shape and understand his own multifaceted identity. He will discuss the play with the audience immediately following the presentation.

Boston resident Miari holds an M.F.A. degree in theater education from Boston University. Since 1996 he has been a member of the Acco Theatre Center Ensemble, acting and dancing in ensemble-based projects for both young and adult audiences throughout Israel, Europe, and the United States, as well as performing solo shows in Arabic, Hebrew, and English. Miari is also a Sufi dancer and sacred dances instructor, performing and leading workshops at universities and international festivals. His theater credits include Round-trip to Monte Carlo, for which he was named "best actor" (audience choice), in the 2010 Boston Playwrights' Platform Festival.
