Pilawa's All-American performance highlights week

Senior diver Doug Pilawa became Skidmore's first swimming and diving athlete to earn All-American honors after placing ninth in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. He scored a 450.65 in the 1-meter and 480.75 in the 3-meter and he closed his stellar career as the record holder in every diving event in school history. 

Baseball opened Liberty League play with a four-game weekend sweep of Rochester to improve to 10-2 on the season. Starting pitching dominated the weekend as senior Zack Rudman (Pittsford, N.Y.), junior Jordan Keysor (Cadyville, N.Y.) sophomore Isaac Forman (New York, N.Y.) and freshman Nick Petrella (West Sayville, N.Y.) all picked up wins during the sweep. Forman allowed just two hits while striking out nine in 7.1 innings in Friday's 2-0 win and Keysor struck out a career-high 10 batters in six innings during Saturday's 12-4 opening win. The Thoroughbreds return to action this Saturday when they travel to Vassar for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.

Softball opened its home schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Cazenovia before splitting Saturday's doubleheader at Castleton. Senior pitcher Sam Crose (Assonet, Mass.) went 2-0 as she tossed a pair of shutouts, beating Cazenovia 3-0 and Castleton 5-0. Junior Julia Schwartz (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) went 8-for-12 on the week with five RBI and sophomore Katie Sorochka (Jackson, N.J.) blasted a pair of home runs to lead Skidmore offensively. The Thoroughbreds are 8-8 on the season and host MCLA for a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29.

Men's tennis cruised to a 9-0 win over Liberty League newcomer Bard in the only match last week. Seniors Luke Granger (Allendale, N.J.), Max Bevan (Morristown, N.J.) sophomores Oliver Loutsenko (Bellmore, N.Y.), Danny Knight (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and freshman Miles Ransom (Delray Beach, Fla.) were all double winners for Skidmore, led by a pair of wins at number-one singles and number-one doubles by Loutsenko. The Thoroughbreds are 6-3 overall and resume play Saturday, March 31, at TCNJ.

Men's lacrosse posted a 1-1 record on the week, earning an OT win at Williams before dropping their league opener at St. Lawrence. At Williams, sophomore Richie Davis tallied the game-winner as junior Mike Holden (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) had three goals. In the 11-6 loss at St. Lawrence, junior Jon Hoeg (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) had two goals and two assists, while senior Connor Dowling (Darien, Conn.) finished with 15 saves in goal. Skidmore is 4-4 overall and travels to Vassar College this Saturday.

Women's lacrosse dropped its first game of the season, losing 16-5 to No. 7 Middlebury. Senior Lauren Madden (Huntington, N.Y.) finished with two goals, while junior Lexi Melville (Syosset, N.Y.) tallied a goal and an assist. Skidmore is 3-1 on the season. ~ By Cody Berschwinger
