Phyllis Roth to be remembered in special event, May 5
The campus and local communities are invited to a special event in memory of longtime Skidmore professor and college leader Phyllis Roth on Saturday, May 5, at 2 p.m. in the Arthur Zankel Music Center. The event will celebrate Phyllis's life through reflections from friends, dance, music, and poetry.

Phyllis came to Skidmore in 1976 as an assistant professor of English and achieved the rank of full professor in 1985, serving as chair of the English Department for five years. In 1990, following a national search, she was named dean of the faculty and chief academic officer under President David H. Porter. During her Skidmore career, she served as both acting and interim president of the college. Among her many endeavors at Skidmore, she was deeply involved in the development of the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, which opened its doors in 2000.
Phyllis was named an honorary alumna of Skidmore, and received a President's Award from college in 2002. She was designated a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts (Adirondack Council), served as a co-director of Saratoga Reads, and was a member of the board of trustees of the Emma Willard School.
"Phyllis had many strong friendships on campus and in the local community, and we invite all those who knew her to join us in a celebration of her life and accomplishments," said Susan Kress, vice president for academic affairs at Skidmore.
