Basketball teams enter semester break as winners

Men’s and women’s basketball ended the semester on a winning note as both earned victories in their final games before a two-week lay-off.

Men’s basketball’s big second-half push propelled the team past Ithaca College, 61-59, in a non-conference road win last Wednesday night. The Thoroughbreds outscored the Bombers 32-15 in the second half, finishing the semester with a 4-2 record. Aldin Medunjanin ’16 knocked down six of his game-high 24 points in the final minute of play to secure the win. He also added 10 rebounds and six assists. Erik Sanders ’16 added 19 points and six rebounds and Tanner Brooks ’16 had nine points and seven rebounds. The team participates at the Land of Magic Classic in Orlando, Fla., Dec. 29-30, taking on Farleigh Dickinson College at Florham and facing Carnegie Mellon University.

Four players scored in double figures as women’s basketball cruised past Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 75-42, Dec.10. Molly McLaughlin ’15 led all scorers with 15 points and added 12 assists, recording her first double-double of the season. Jordyn Wartts ’14 had 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds, Ella Scehuerell ’16 scored 11 points and chipped in seven rebounds and Amber Holgate ’16 scored in double digits off the bench for the second-straight game with 13 points. The Thoroughbreds (3-4), who won back-to-back wins for the first time this season, travel to the Salem State Tournament Dec. 29-30. ~ By Dan St. Jacques
