Thoroughbreds enter semester break on winning note

The semester ended on a winning note for Skidmore winter sports, as riding and women’s basketball both notched impressive victories.

Women’s basketball powered past Green Mountain, cruising to a 98-27 win. The team shot a season-high 50.0 percent from the field (37 for 74), while holding the Eagles to 18.2 percent (6 for 33) shooting. Migle Vilunaite ’17 tallied a career-high 19 points, going 9 for 10 from the field, including a perfect 7 for 7 in the second half. Kelly Donnelly ’18 added 16 points and four steals, Amber Holgate ’16 chipped in 10 points and a career-best seven steals, Lindsey Davis ’15 had 11 points and five boards and Catie Opfer ’18 produced nine points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Every player on the team got on the score sheet. The team travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dec. 28-29 for the San Juan Shootout before returning home for its Liberty League opener against RIT at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2

Riding remained perfect on the year, closing the semester with its fifth straight win at the Skidmore show. The team leads Zone 2/Region 3 by 51 points with three regular-season shows remaining. Amy Munro ’15 was the High Point Rider, placing first in Intermediate Over Fences and Intermediate Flat, and Wendy Collins ’17 won a ride-off for Reserve High Point Rider.
