Skidmore cheers at Citi Field gathering
Members of the Skidmore community gathered at Citi Field in May to witness a matchup between the National League East first-place team, the New York Mets, and the National League Central first-place team, St. Louis Cardinals. Of the more than 75 attendees, a wide range of class years, parents, friends, an incoming freshman with her family, faculty (current and retired), and staff was represented.
Underwritten by Philip Wachtler ’84 and family, the event raised funds for summer internships. Because of the Wachtlers’ generosity, all proceeds—more than $6,000 from ticket sales—went to the Skidmore Summer Internship Fund. Highlights of the event included a ball and photograph signed by Dwight “Doc” Gooden, Mets pitcher 1984-1994, as prizes for a drawing held during the evening. Evelyn Vasquez ’98 won the photo. Tom Bayer from the Skidmore Post Office won the baseball.
This was the second year Skidmore has held an event at Citi Field, and the NYC Area Regional Planning Committee is thrilled with the response and plans to continue the yearly tradition. We look forward to returning to the clubhouse, located just inches away from the playing field and positioned along the warning track in right field next to the bullpen. The party space offers a ground-level, player’s perspective through the outfield fence, complemented by food and beverage service. The only thing missing at the May 19 gathering was a victory by the Mets!
