Fall teams make success a habit

Skidmore’s strong start to the fall sports season continued last week, as three teams notched wins. Golf had an impressive showing in its first tournament of the season, women's soccer and field hockey celebrated victories, and volleyball faced some stiff competition at the Union Invitational.


FIELD HOCKEY (3-0)

Skidmore 2, Geneseo 0

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Zoe McGuire ’18 made a career-high 13 saves in the fifth-ranked Thoroughbreds’ 2-0 win.
  • Becca Halter ’17 had a multi-point game with a goal and an assist, and Dani DeGregory ’16 also scored, extending her point streak to 13 games.
  • The team, which shut out back-to-back opponents for the first time since 2011, has held 14 of its last 15 opponents to two goals or fewer.

  • Emily Saliterman ’17 netted her third goal in as many games and Emma Basso ’19 produced her first collegiate point in Skidmore’s 1-0 win.
  • Dee Walsh ’17 made two saves for her second consecutive and sixth career shutout.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Five different players scored in the Thoroughbreds’ 5-1 victory over SUNY Canton.
  • Adebare Oyeniyi ’17 recorded a goal and an assist and Will Berg ’18 tallied his first collegiate goal in the win.
  • Skidmore scored five goals in a game for the first time since 2008.

  • Mackenzie Nelson ’17 led the team with a score of 77-73—150, tying for seventh.
  • Tim Manwaring ’16 added a top-15 finish with a score of 76-76—151, tied for 12th.

  • Caite Canfield ’19 had a double-double against Oneonta with 16 kills and 13 digs and added another against Division II Saint Michael’s with 10 kills and 11 digs.
  • Marcela Familiar-Bolaños ’17 recorded 21 digs against Cortland and Saint Michael’s and produced 17 against Oneonta.
  • Bailey Hutchins ’19 (17) and Sam Abrams ’19 combined for 32 assists against Saint Michael’s.
