Thoroughbreds continue to impress

Skidmore’s fall sports teams continued to impress last week as they approach the season’s home stretch. Golf closed out its fall schedule in dominant fashion, placing first at the NYU/Manhattanville Invitational. Field hockey notched a pair of wins, men’s soccer continued to roll in Liberty League play and the men’s tennis doubles team of Kai Yuen Leung ’17 and Nick Tong ’16 added another title to their trophy case. Women’s soccer had a bounce-back week, going unbeaten in two conference games, and volleyball cruised to two wins at the Union Invitational.

NYU/Manhattanville Fall Invitational, first of nine

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Thoroughbreds shot 301-302—603 to win the NYU/Manhanttanville Invitational by 25 strokes.
  • Mackenzie Nelson ’17 was the team’s top finisher, placing second with 75-72—147.
  • Denis Biglin ’18 had the highest finish of his collegiate career, tying for fourth with 77-74—181.
  • Mitchell Campbell ’17 tied for 10th with 74-80—154 and Tim Manwaring ’16 was 15th with 75-81—156.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Skidmore goalkeeper Zoe McGuire ’18 made the most important of her 10 saves against Williams with 15.3 seconds remaining in regulation, stopping a penalty stroke to seal the 2-1 win.
  • Gabby Hyman ’19 extended her scoring streak to five games with a goal against the Ephs and two against RPI.
  • Dani DeGregory ’17 scored the game-winning goal against Williams and produced two goals and an assist against RPI.
  • Krista Lamoreaux ’17 (2A), Jenn Hanks ’16 (1G, 1A) and Seeley Fancher ’18 (1G, 1A) all recorded multi-point games against the Engineers.
  • DeGregory and Hyman have combined for 53 points (23G, 7A) over the last six games.

Skidmore 1, Vassar 0

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Thoroughbreds posted their fifth consecutive shutout win, beating Vassar 1-0.
  • The team extended its shutout streak to 473 minutes and has not allowed a goal against a conference opponent this season.
  • Austin Okoye’s ’18 team-leading fifth goal 18:37 into play proved to be the game winner.
  • Goalkeeper Eli Kisselbach ’16 posted his fifth straight shutout in the win.
  • Skidmore currently sits six points clear at the top of the Liberty League standings.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Kai Yuen Leung ’17 and Nick Tong ’16 took first place in the “A” flight bracket of the Wallach Invitational, beating the tournament’s second-seeded team 8-4 in the finals.
  • Lucas Pickering ’18 and Steven Koulouris ’18 advanced to the “B” flight doubles finals, falling 8-4 to a team from trinity in the final match.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Emily Saliterman ’17 scored her league-leading fourth game-winning goal of the season against Bard.
  • Courtney Shaw ’19 tallied her first collegiate goal against the Raptors.
  • Deidre Walsh ’17 stopped three shots against Bard, earning her fifth shutout of the season.
  • Alyssa Rollins ’18 made three saves over the final 65 minutes against Vassar, including two in overtime, to preserve the 0-0 tie.

  • Allie Dillon ’19 had back-to-back double-doubles, tying a career-high with 14 kills and contributing 25 digs against New Rochelle and registering 13 kils and 18 digs against Penn St.-Behrend.
  • Bailey Hutchins ’19 chipped in with 24 assists and 16 digs against New Rochelle and Caite Canfield ’19 posted 19 kills and nine digs.
  • Marcela Familiar-Bolaños ’17 had 29 digs against New Rochelle
