Visual journalism, digital storytelling to be Oct. 15 topic

October 13, 2015

“Seeing is Believing: Visual Journalism at The New York Times” is the title of a lecture to be given Thursday, Oct. 15, at Skidmore by Graham Roberts. Free and open to the public, the event begins at 7 p.m. in Gannett Auditorium, Palamountain Hall.

Whether it is a 3D-point cloud capture experiment with the Kronos Quartet; a marriage of interview and visualization to pull back the curtain on the making of the summer hit, Where Are Ü Now, with Justin Bieber, Skrillex, and Diplo; or a multimedia "tour" of the 9/11 Memorial Museum, Roberts creates work at the forefront of digital storytelling. Focusing on new approaches in video, data visualization and motion graphics, Roberts, a senior editor in graphics at the Times, will discuss and share his work.

The talk is co-sponsored by the Student Speakers Bureau and Project VIS, a three-year initiative sponsored by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that seeks to increase visual literacy throughout the campus community.
