The Department of Theater will present The Last Days of Judas Iscariot by Stephen Adly Guirgis, Thursday, March 3, to Wednesday, March 9, in the Black Box Theater. All performances are at 8 p.m. except on Sunday, when there will be a matinee at 2 p.m.
In a corner of Purgatory called Hope, Judas Iscariot is on trial for betraying Jesus Christ. Through the testimonies of larger-than-life biblical and historical characters like Mother Teresa, Sigmund Freud, and Satan, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot digs in to our natural human tendency to question our own self-worth and overall “goodness” and, ultimately, attempts to define the line between good and evil.
Director Stephen Adly Guirgis writes plays for the common man, or as one New York Times critic wrote, for the people “whom society would label losers.” The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is no exception, bringing to life a number of familiar biblical and historical figures with incredible wit, honesty, and humor. Guirgis delves deep into these characters, giving them life through a diverse range of dialects and sensibilities. The Last Days of Judas Iscariot showcases a collection of misfits, who, in a small courtroom in purgatory, create a self-doubt bomb waiting to explode, as the audience sits in anticipation.
Hannah Baker ‘16 and Theo Saroglou ’16 are directors of the production.
Tickets: $12 general admission and $8 for students and senior citizens. Seating is limited and reservations are suggested. Please call the theater box office at 518-580-5439 for reservations or more information.
