More than 9,150 students from the U.S. and abroad applied to Skidmore for entry next fall. It was the largest and strongest applicant pool in College history. The total apps represent a 6 percent jump over the previous high and include a 33 percent increase in those seeking Early Decision.

Many of the 2,200 who were accepted through regular decision will visit campus for Discovery Tour, April 6-8, or for one of three Accepted Candidate Days, April 8, 11, and 15. A number of already-enrolled Early Decision students will be on hand to meet their new classmates.

“We are delighted to see so many amazing candidates from all over the country and indeed the world,” says Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Mary Lou Bates. Skidmore students hail from 45 states and more than 60 countries.

This year, 22 percent of the admitted applicants self-identified as domestic students of color, while 14 percent are international students. Currently, domestic students of color represent 22 percent of the overall student body; international students, 10 percent; and first-generation college students, 11 percent.

The expected size of the Class of 2020 is 680, which includes 35 to 40 students who will choose to begin their Skidmore experiences in the First-Year Experience in London program.

Skidmore remains among the best liberal arts colleges in the nation and fifth in a recent ranking of Upstate New York’s most selective colleges. (For national rankings and mentions, please click here.)
