Student to stage solo production

April 21, 2016

A troubled teen is the only character in Adam Rapp’s The Edge of our Bodies, being performed by Rigel Harris ’16 as her senior thesis in theater. Curtain time is 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, April 25, 26, and 27, at Falstaff’s campus pub. All are welcome; tickets are free and may be reserved by emailing adennis@skdimore.edu.

The Edge of our Bodies, an intense, mysterious coming-of-age story, follows a prep-school student struggling with two issues: telling her boyfriend that she is pregnant, and preparing to audition for a part in her school play, Genet’s The Maids. Like the Genet piece, The Edge questions what is real, what is imagined, and what is a constructed presentation for others.

Obie-winning playwright Rapp is also the author of novels and screenplays, including for the Vinyl TV series. In an American Theatre interview, Rapp said, “John Guare told me once that if you can make them laugh, you can punch them really hard in the stomach later. That was a really useful thing…”

Rigel’s production is directed by Hannah Baker ’16, with stage manager Alexandra Dennis ’18 and technician Brandon Bogle ’16. Rigel’s faculty advisors in the theater department are Will Bond and Ariel Osterweis.
