R. Parthasarathy, professor emeritus of English, edited and translated Erotic Poems from the Sanskrit: An Anthology (Columbia University Press, 2017), part of the Translations from the Asian Classics series. The first major translation of Sanskrit erotic verse in 40 years, the collection contains works by 72 poets, including seven women, primarily composed between the fourth and 17th centuries. It includes a detailed introduction that guides readers through Sanskrit poetic forms and explains how to read and appreciate the poems in English.
Catherine Golden, professor of English, wrote an article titled "David Copperfield, an Illustrated
Hero?" for the Autumn 2017 issue of Illustration Magazine (Issue 53, pages 16–21).
In the News
Ian Berry, director of the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, was quoted in a Dec. 1 New York Times article titled "Breaking Through Categories and Conventions at BAM" Berry spoke about the work of artist Suzanne Bocanegra. The Tang hosted a solo exhibit by Bocanegra in 2010.
