Skidmore Spotlight: Jane Kjaer

August 3, 2018

Jane Kjaer works as a curator in the Special Collections and Rare Books Department of the Scribner Library.

Kjaer has been at Skidmore for eleven years. Before Skidmore, she worked as a circulation coordinator in the library at the College of Saint Rose. Kjaer is also a trained textile conservator and a certified high school teacher in her home country, Denmark.

Kjaer said, “When a position opened up in Skidmore’s library, it was a no-brainer to apply and I have never regretted it. Skidmore is a vibrant campus. I love what I do and I get to meet interesting people while pursuing some of my own interests.”

On what she enjoys most, Kjaer said, “I love working with the students when they come here for classes and enjoy watching them discover and get excited about the resources we have.”

“There is great satisfaction in being able to find often elusive answers,” said Kjaer. “And most importantly, I am constantly learning.”

When it comes to Skidmore traditions, Kjaer enjoys Founder’s Day since she’s “such a fan of Lucy Skidmore Scribner.”

When not at Skidmore, Kjaer can be found with her two dogs in the natural habitats of the Adirondacks, New Hampshire and Maine doing everything from backpacking to white water rafting.
