Faculty-Staff Achievements

Deb Hall, associate professor of art, will be exhibiting in “Anthropocenic: Art About the Natural World in the Human Era,” at Bates College Museum of Art, in Lewiston, Maine. The exhibition, which explores the relationship and impact between humans and nature in the 21st century, will be open Oct. 27-March 23, 2019. The opening reception is 8:30 p.m., Oct. 27. 

 

Christopher Mann, assistant professor of political science, was interviewed for The New York Times article “He’s a Rhodes Scholar. The GOP Keeps Calling Him a ‘Big-City Rapper,’” about U.S. House of Representatives candidate Antonio Delgado.

 

Juan Navea, assistant professor of chemistry, and scientists from 11 research institutions have been awarded a $20 million National Science Foundation grant to examine the impact of aerosols on the ocean and atmosphere.  Skidmore is the only mainly undergraduate partner in the five-year grant. The grant allowed Navea to travel with Skidmore students Yao Xiao '19, Angelina Leonardi '20, and Renee Karchere-Sun '20 to Takamatsu, Japan, where they presented their research at a conference of International Global Atmospheric Chemistry in September. Navea’s research with five recent graduates — Christopher Ostaszewski '18, Natalie Stuart '18, Daniel Lesko '17, Deborah Kim '18 and Matthew Lueckheide '17 —was published as the cover article of the Journal of Physical Chemistry, the leading journal in that field.

 

Jeffrey Segrave, professor of health and human physiological sciences, published “The Poetry of Tennis” in the fall 2017/winter 2018 issue of Aethlon: The Journal of Sport Literature. He also published “Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, 2017-2018: A Case Study” with Tim Spencer '18 and Kevin Santos '18, who both played on the men’s soccer team and participated in an independent study with Segrave in the spring.
