Faculty Staff Achievements May 6, 2026

K. Aurelia Ball, associate professor of chemistry, was awarded a Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The award will support a 12-month sabbatical beginning in August 2028 at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences in Göttingen, Germany. Her project is titled “Computational investigation of solvent contributions to intrinsically disordered protein binding thermodynamics.”

Yelena Biberman-Ocakli, associate professor of political science, published “Broken-Windows Counterinsurgency: Militarization and Resistance in India-Administered Kashmir” in Asia Policy and “Safe Havens for Rebels” in Lawfare. She co-authored “The Other War the World Is Ignoring” in The Interpreter and “Trump’s Iran Escalation Will Be the Next Iraq War” in Newsweek, and presented her research by invitation at the Oxford China Policy Lab and Simon Fraser University. 

Brooke Paradise, associate dean of student affairs for inclusion and engagement, has been nominated to serve on the National Governance Task Force Implementation Team for NASPA. The team will work to enhance the structure, efficiency, and alignment of NASPA’s governance framework and its financial and operational model, implementing recommendations approved by the NASPA Board of Directors in March 2026. 

Laurie Rabinowitz, assistant professor of education studies, guest taught two classes at the Universidad de Magallanes and delivered a research talk for educators and related service providers at Escuela Especial Mi Mundo, both in Punta Arenas, Chile.
