Best in Show, Schick Art Gallery Prize from the 2006 Skidmore Student Exhibition
Exhibition juror Fred Wilson selected 77 works from 194 pieces submitted for consideration. All of the original paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, prints, photographs, graphic design, installation, metals and mixed media works on display were created by Skidmore students in 2005. A total of 88 students entered works; 60 are represented in the show. Wilson also selected eleven awards for outstanding work, which were announced at the opening reception. These prizes were funded through donations made by friends of the gallery, campus organizations, and community businesses. A complete list of winners is posted in the gallery along with a juror's statement.
Fred Wilson is an American artist of African-American and Caribbean descent who represented the United States at the 2003 Venice Biennale. Born in the Bronx, New York in 1954, Wilson received a B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Purchase in 1976 and lives in New York City. He is best known for rearranging museum collections, using the same design techniques museums use, coming up with different points of view.
