The Schick Art Gallery is pleased to present Afronauts andAncestors, a solo exhibition of mixed media works by Alisa Sikelianos-Carter.

Her lavish surfaces and use of luminous materials, like glitter and abalone shell, "pay homage to ancestral majesty, power, and aesthetics...creating a mythology that is centered on Black resistance and utilizes the body as a site of alchemy and divinity."

Sikelianos-Carterearned her BA and MA from SUNY Albany in Painting and Drawing. Her recent exhibitions include participation in group shows at the Bronx Art Space, Bronx, NY; the Tang Teaching Museum; and Pelham Art Center, Pelham, NY.

Her show follows Skidmore's Juried Student Exhibition for which Sikelianos-Carter was the juror. We are excited to be able to extend her relationship with students in this way.

The exhibition opens on Thursday, April 1 and runs through Wednesday, April 28.
