The Schick Gallery is pleased to present, in person, the 2020 Selected Art Faculty Exhibition, this year featuring sculpture by John Galt, photographs by Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison, and paintings and drawings by Michael Van Winkle.

John Galt’s sculpture combines sensitivity to the dynamics of movement and form with a passion for iron and bronze casting.  After Galt received his Masters degree in Fine Art from the University of Pennsylvania, he worked in commercial foundries, and since 1990 has operated his own casting business in western Massachusetts. Galt has been teaching sculpture at Skidmore since 1990, and is actively involved in foundry events like iron-pours both on and off campus. His work has been exhibited regionally and in Europe.

Robert ParkeHarrison and partner Shana ParkeHarrison work as a collaborative team, creating elaborately staged photographs exploring the complex connections among humans, nature and technology. They want to influence viewers ‘toward visceral, sustained contemplation of their own place in our evolving existence.’  In 2011, ‘The Architect’s Brother’, a museum exhibition of the ParkeHarrisons’ photographs, traveled throughout the United States and Europe. Their works are held in numerous collections, including the Los Angeles County Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Robert ParkeHarrison has taught photography at Skidmore since 2011.

In Michael Van Winkle’s paintings, figures carry out intriguing and mysterious actions, while abstract elements belie a clear narrative. Van Winkle earned a BFA in Painting with a Minor in Philosophy from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, and an MFA from the State University of New York at Albany.  He has shown his work in numerous group and solo exhibitions regionally and nationally, most recently at the Courthouse Gallery in Lake George, NY, and the Times Club in Iowa City, Iowa. This is his second year as a lecturer in the Skidmore Art Department.
