Why did you decide to transfer to Skidmore?
Before coming to Skidmore, I was pursuing a BFA in dance in New York City. Although I loved studying dance, I felt that I was missing out on my academic and extracurricular interests. Skidmore presented me with the perfect mix of a strong academic institution with an equally strong dance program, one that I could participate in as much or as little as I wanted. The extensive lists of clubs and student organizations was exciting, too!

What does Skidmore offer you that your previous college did not?
A blank slate where I can start over in discovering my academic- and career-oriented goals. I don't feel restricted to one area of study or one art form. I know that I can take a studio art class, a theater class, or even a biology class without having to declare a major or minor in any of them. Skidmore gives its students the freedom to explore, grow, and learn in whatever way they choose.

What advice do you have for others considering transferring to Skidmore?
Just go for it. Send in your application. Skidmore has an amazing community, and people here do an INCREDIBLE job of making their transfer students feel at home and well adjusted. I've had friends who transferred to other schools talk about not feeling accommodated by the school or welcomed by their peers. Skidmore, in my experience, made sure to make transfers feel cared for and well attended to. I feel like I have people looking out for me and check in on me because they recognize the position I'm in as a transfer student. That extends beyond administration and staff to the student body which has really welcomed me into the community.

Are you glad you transferred?
I'm so glad I transferred. There are definitely times that I miss New York City and my friends from last year, but I can confidently say that transferring here is the best academic decision I've made to date. I feel comfortable on campus, challenged academically, and supported by the community. I truly feel like I've found a home here, which is a feeling I didn't have last year.

What's the best part of Skidmore so far?
The people! Everyone here is exceptionally nice and outgoing.

What are your future hopes/plans?
I plan to pursue a career in sexual health/education while continuing to dance.
