Violent incident in downtown Saratoga Springs

November 21, 2022

Dear Skidmore Community,

Please be advised that over the weekend, a downtown Saratoga Springs altercation that originated at a Caroline Street bar at around 3 a.m. Sunday resulted in a shooting incident near the intersection of Caroline Street and Broadway. The City Council is reviewing security policies for downtown Saratoga Springs, and more details will be forthcoming.

Public Safety Commissioner Montagnino said that “outside of a training exercise or putting down a rabid animal, this is the first time in 26 years that an officer in the Saratoga Springs Police Department had to discharge a firearm in the line of duty.”

When going out, please be vigilant about your surroundings and stay in the company of trusted friends. As always, exercise caution and if you notice a concealed weapon, or if a situation occurs that feels unsafe or unpleasant, trust your instincts and use your best judgment to immediately leave and call the police in the interest of safety.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Campus Safety at 518-580-5566, or reach out to Saratoga Springs Police at 518-584-1800.
