Search for General Counsel and Vice President for Human Resources

Dear Skidmore Community,

After months of consultation with many campus constituencies, President Conner has decided to proceed with the search for the role of General Counsel and Vice President for Human Resources (GC/VPHR). The GC/VPHR will provide transparent and thoughtful leadership and strategic vision, fostering a supportive employee culture that empowers and inspires community members to engagement and creativity. 

Reporting directly to President Conner and serving on the President’s Cabinet, the General Counsel and Vice President for Human Resources will serve as the College’s senior officer in all legal and human resource matters – providing leadership, strategic insight, and coordination of the Office of Human Resources, as well as legal counsel and advice. The GC/VPHR will oversee a range of critically important administrative functions that provide vital and transparent services, support, structure, and connectedness to the College community. 

This is a key step in President Conner’s repeated call to “take care of our people,” recognizing the crucial importance of employee support and the key role that HR plays in the life of the College. In addition, the role will strengthen the range of support for our community and be an informed and collaborative resource for all employees in their work. 

Skidmore will partner with Storbeck Search in this important national search. A search committee comprised of faculty, staff, student, and cabinet representatives will be formed through the usual shared governance processes. The hope is to conduct and conclude the search and have an appointment announced over the course of the next two to three months.
