Consulting internships return to Skidmore

December 6, 2018

In November 2017, Bill McKendree '74 enjoyed one of his many visits to Skidmore campus.  The CEO of The Clarion Group, a business consulting firm, Bill was on-hand to lend his expertise to Skidmore Saratoga Consulting Partnership students, as well as students studying entrepreneurship and small business.

This trip, however, Bill had a new focus: Internships.

Recruitment efforts for Clarion Group interns began the following month, facilitated by Skidmore's Career Development Center.  Though based in Connecticut, the firm works with clients worldwide, and Bill recognized that internships could be conducted virtually.  Once a geology major, Bill also recognized the value different student lenses and experiences could bring to his firm, and the studies of topics like organizational culture, top team leadership, leadership effectiveness, and more.

"We'll look at any major," said Bill.  "These internships are great career-building opportunities for sociology, management & business, anthropology, and psychology majors, among others."

Bill was so impressed with the student candidate pool, The Clarion Group ended up increasing the number of internships offered to Skidmore students.  Bill ensured each intern was paired with a professional partner at the firm for guidance and mentorship.

One of the firm's first Skidmore interns was Ran Tao '18.

Ran Tao '18"I would totally recommend interning at The Clarion Group," said Ran. "I learned a lot of interesting topics throughout my research processes, but I think the most exciting part was the hands-on experience, where I could contribute to the projects and constantly challenge myself to do better. My manager and my team were very supportive and willing to help with any questions."

The Clarion Group currently has openings for two virtual internships for Spring 2019:

The application deadline for each position is December 15, 2018.  Second year students, juniors and seniors of all majors are eligible to apply.
