SPWG Update (08/24/26)

Dear Members of the Skidmore Community,

As every summer, this year Facilities Services completed various projects across campus. The work included academic buildings, sports facilities, residential halls, and outdoor spaces.

Key projects:

  • The first floor of Jonsson Tower was renovated to house the new Residential Community Commons
  • The second phase of the Broadway entrance to campus moved forward
  • Replacement of 150 exterior light poles began and is scheduled to be completed across campus
  • New chair lifts were installed in Jonsson Tower and the Tang Teaching Museum & Art Gallery (currently in the process of being replaced)
  • Replacement of the elevator in Wiecking Hall

View a comprehensive list of projects here.

Many projects are still underway or will take place during this coming year, as the College continues investing in the upkeep of our campus.

Space Planning Working Group and Space Requests

The Space Planning Working Group (SPWG) brings together students, staff, and faculty to evaluate and make recommendations on space allocation and utilization, guided by the Campus Master Plan and the Strategic Plan. This coming year, Prof. Adam Tinkle and Prof. Sara Lagalwar will represent the faculty, and two student representatives will be appointed soon.

Last year, the SPWG received updates on the Jonsson Tower first-floor renovation, the plans for the renovations of the residence halls, and other campus projects. In partnership with the Committee on Intercultural and Global Understanding (CIGU) and Bias Response Group, the SPWG put forward a recommendation to form a campus-wide group on accessibility, which led to the creation of the Task Force on Accessibility. Members also prepared recommendations about the future of the SPWG and changes to its charge.

To learn more about the space request process or to submit a request, visit the SPWG page.

Best regards,

Dan Rodecker, Assistant Vice President of Facilities and Planning (SPWG co-chair)
Oscar Pérez Hernández, Associate Dean of the Faculty (SPWG co-chair)
