The Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium (HEDS) is an organization of colleges and universities committed to sharing data, knowledge, and expertise to advance undergraduate liberal arts education, inclusive excellence, and student success at member institutions.
- Survey engages all constituencies (students, staff and faculty);
- Gathering a clearer sense of the composition of campus;
- Understanding perceptions of the institution’s support of diversity and inclusion;
- Enabling College to better address and support policies and practices that relate to diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Survey was administered to all students, staff and faculty between
Feb 4 - Mar 17, 2019. 3,673 community members received the survey; - Committee on Intercultural and Global Understanding (CIGU) formed a working group consisting of faculty, staff and students in the fall of 2019;
- The working group brought in institutional partners including IR and Communications and Marketing to analyze and present the data;
- Over 200 hours has been devoted to reviewing data and findings;
- Presentation to CIGU, President's Cabinet and IPPC to gather feedback;
- Feedback from community presentations will inform the development of CIGU’s 5-year strategic plan.
- 1,286 students responded, 401 staff, and 270 faculty – for a total of 1,957 responses (nearly 2,000).
- Rates: students 1286/2579, staff 401/731, faculty 270/363
- Of 45 small colleges that administered the survey, Skidmore Response Rate Rank: #2 students, #8 staff, #1 faculty
- Margin of Error with 95% confidence level: +/- 2% students, 3% staff, 3% faculty
- Differences determined by effect size (medium .3 or large .5) and not significance (per HEDS). They used Cohen’s d & h.
- Reason = Type I & II error, and
- Unlike significance tests, effect size is independent of sample size.
- Sig is function of sample size, almost different sig if sample size large
- Sig = effect not due to chance (real); Effect Size = how large effect was (eg, real big, or not)
- Results are not weighted (per HEDS).
