AY 2026-27 Special Focus: Creativity and Academic Excellence

The Office of the Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs (DOF/VPAA) invites funding requests of up to $1,500 for activities and projects that advance "Foundation 1: Creativity and Academic Excellence" of the Skidmore College Strategic Plan, the focus of this year's Ad Hoc Funds program.
This focus aims to support faculty as creative and innovative teacher-scholars, encourage innovative and interdisciplinary curricular efforts, and enhance initiatives that strengthen faculty development. Funding can be requested by an individual faculty member or by a group of collaborators, and can be used for purposes such as attending relevant workshops, acquiring materials, exploring collaborations in new areas, or other types of support to advance excellence in teaching and learning, cultivate scholarly and artistic maturity, strengthen contributions to institutional and community life, and nurture professional thriving for faculty.
Although other requests that adhere to the purpose of the Ad Hoc Funds program might be considered (i.e., those that fall outside the boundaries of programs administered by the Faculty Development Committee), priority will be given to requests that fit this year’s focus. To ensure a balanced consideration of requests and adequate distribution of the funds available, requests for Ad Hoc Funds will be reviewed in four cycles throughout the year (deadlines: September 18, November 20, February 5, and April 9). The activities outlined in the request must fall within the current academic year, funds cannot be used for faculty stipends, and all funds must be used by May 31, 2027.
Faculty requesting these funds should use the Ad Hoc Funds Online Application form and describe in the “Reason for Request” how the request aligns with this year’s focus. The project description should explain the impact the funds are expected to have once they are used.
Funds are limited, so we encourage faculty to consider other sources of funding first if appropriate, such as departmental and program funds, Faculty Development Grants, Faculty Initiative Grants, or Travel to Read/Travel to Represent funds.
