Digital Map Storytelling with ArcGIS Online

Workshops for Skidmore and Saratoga Community Members
Wednesdays, February 25 and March 4
4 p.m., LI 113 (Scribner Library)

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn some basic tools and methods to create a digital storymap using only a smartphone and free websites. You will use the camera on a mobile smartphone or tablet, a free image website (such as Picasa or Flickr) and ArcGIS Online. 

• On February 25 we'll work with existing images and become familiar the technology.
• On March 4, bring in your own images and begin your own story map.

Prior to the workshop, please set up a Google Account (www.gmail.com) and a public account on ArcGIS online (Arcgis.com).

About Alex Chaucer

Alex Chaucer is a GIS instructional technologist in the Academic Technologies Department at Skidmore College. His s background includes teaching at NASA's Spatial Information Technology Center at Fulton-Montgomery Community College, where he taught "Intro to GIS," "Advanced GIS," "Cartography" and "Remote Sensing" for five years. He oversees the operations of the GIS Center in Lucy Scribner Library room 227. His interests include all things mapping with a focus on data visualization technology and mobile devices, specifically for application to teaching, research and community projects. The Skidmore GIS Center for Interdisciplinary Research provides students and faculty with the resources and expertise to incorporate GIS and related geospaital technology into course offerings and research across academic disciplines. The center is also a resource for local governments, environmental and social nonprofit organizations, and historic societies with its extensive catalog of Saratoga County socioeconomic, historic and natural resource data.
