Give and Go returns to campus

May 8, 2011

Salvation armyThe annual student move-out program - Give + Go!- is now under way.

According to Riley Neugebauer, sustainability coordinator, this event allows the College to avoid hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds of reusable items from going into the trash and landfill. It also allows these items to be given to an organization that supports individuals and families in need in our region.

Unwanted items donated by students will be given to the Salvation Army in Albany. The Salvation Army will support our efforts by providing bins on campus which will sit near the residence halls and apartments. The Eco-Reps and other volunteers will help to take donated items to these bins, and if you would like to donate something, please place your items into a bag or box first before placing it into the bin.

For a list of accepted items and drop-off points, you can view or print the Give+Go flyer.

Here is a general idea of how this program will take place on campus:

  • May 5-14:  Residence Hall donation/collection period
  • May 16-21:  Apartment village donation/collection period
  • May 22 (Sunday after Commencement):  Seniors and remaining students leave campus?final day to donate

Please help support this program by refraining from going through these items or taking them home with you. They will soon appear in your area Salvation Army stores - please take advantage of their stores if you are interested in these items. We want to ensure that this event is a success for the Salvation Army as well!

Another way to support this program is  to volunteer. Neugebauer would welcome assistance in moving items from the residence halls or from the apartments and into the bins or Salvation Army trucks throughout this period.

If you are interested to volunteer, please send a note to sustainability@skidmore.edu.
