Klemperer Trio to perform Oct. 27
The Klemperer Trio
The Klemperer Trio, currently on a fall tour throughout the Northeast, will perform Monday, Oct. 27, at Skdimore’s Arthur Zankel Music Center.
Formed in 1980, The Klemperer Trio has performed to critical acclaim in the United States and Europe. Trio members are Erika Klemperer, violin; Ronald Crutcher, violoncello; and Gordon Back, piano. They form a chamber ensemble of exceptional musicianship, with a repertoire spanning musical styles from classical to contemporary.
Known for performing classical piano trios, the group has been described by the San Francisco Chronicle as “three brilliant artists who play as one.” Monday’s program includes Trio in C minor by Shostakovich, Trio in D minor by Mendelssohn, Trio in G major by Haydn, and Trio in D minor by Arensky.
Pianist Back is a professor and fellow of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In addition, he is the artistic director of the Menuhin Competition, a major violin festival, and has accompanied the Tchaikovsky, Queen Elisabeth, Paganini, and Indianapolis competitions.
Crutcher, who plays the violoncello, made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1985. A former member of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, he was the first cellist to earn a doctor of music arts degree at Yale University. He is president of Wheaton College in Norton, Mass.
Violinist Klemperer is a former professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has played principal positions in several leading London chamber orchestras. She graduated from Indiana University with honors and earned a master’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College.
Admission for the Oct. 27 event is $8 adults, $5 seniors, retirees, faculty, and staff, and free for students.
