Faculty Staff Achievements Oct. 8, 2025

Kathryn Baustian, assistant professor of anthropology, presented “Identification and Recovery of Human Skeletal Remains” at a training workshop hosted by the Vermont Police Academy for the Northeast Wilderness Search and Rescue organization, which drew law enforcement and search-and-rescue professionals from across the region.

Barbara Black, professor of English and Tisch chair in arts and letters, delivered a keynote address at the "Hotels, Motels and Inns" international conference at the Centre for Anglophone Studies at the University of Toulouse in France. 

Jenny Day, professor of history and Francis Young Tang '61 chair in Chinese studies, is the author of “Transborder Fugitives, Extradition, and Political Crimes in Modern China,” recently published by Cambridge University Press.

Ryan Homsey, director of academic advising, co-led a talkback following a screening of the new documentary “Merchant Ivory” at Scene One Cinemas in Saratoga Springs, discussing his work on the film’s original score. The event, part of the Saratoga Book Festival, featured filmmaker Stephen Soucy and was moderated by Spencer Sherry of the 518 Film Network. 

Sara Lagalwar, professor of neuroscience, published "Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 1 (SCA1) Cell Models Display Widespread Mitochondrial and Extra-Nuclear Alterations" in Neurobiology of Disease. Co-authors include Jennifer Bonner, associate professor of biology; students Emily Lawrence '26 and Abigail Glasman '26; and eight alumni.

Christine Reilly, associate professor and chair of computer science, published "An Enrollment Database Used for Course Schedule Planning" in The Journal of Computing Sciences in Colleges.

Patrick Reilly, assistant professor of economics, co-authored "Horizontal Product Differentiation in Higher Education Markets and Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Changes," published in Review of Industrial Organization. The study examines whether colleges gain an advertising advantage from participation in major college sports, using applicant pool data to measure the effect.
