Join us for an exclusive performance by pianist and NPR host Lara Downes at Arthur Zankel Music Center at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, as part of Skidmore’s Filene Anniversary Concert Series. Downes’ dynamic work as a sought-after performer, a chart-topping recording artist, a producer, curator, activist, and arts advocate positions her as a cultural visionary on the national arts scene.

Susannah Mintz

The annual Edwin M. Moseley Faculty Lecture will be presented by English Professor Susannah Mintz at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in Gannett Auditorium. In "From Milton to Memoir: On Sentences, Story, and Self," Mintz will explain how she got from Milton to disability scholarship to memoir and back again, with stops at crime fiction, pain research, hypochondria, and the life-affirming power of a sentence.

The artist collective Soft Monitor (Victoria Manganiello ’12 and Julian Goldman) offers a workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, that covers the basics of weaving and embedding messages into cloth using ASCII character codes. Soft Monitor’s work is on view in "Radical Fiber: Threads Connecting Art and Science." Learn more about “Radical Fiber” from the curators, artists, scientists, and entrepreneurs who took part in the “Radical Fiber” Symposium.

Skidmore Chorus performing in Zankel Music Center

Senior recitals and performances by the Skidmore Chorus and Vocal Chamber Ensemble, Skidmore Small Jazz Ensembles, and Guitar Ensemble are coming up this month. The Skidmore World Music Showcase: Student Work from North Indian Ensemble, Bluegrass Studio, and Chinese Ensemble will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24.
