Returning home: Back-to-back Reunion weekends
For the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, hundreds of alumni returned to campus for two weekends of celebration: A June 2-5 Reunion Weekend for alumni with class years ending in 2 and 7 was followed by a separate June 10-12 celebration for class years ending in 0, 5, 1, and 6, whose Reunions had been postponed in 2020 and 2021. On July 9, the Tang’s annual community open house — Frances Day — returns with art-making, tours, music, and more! Also on July 9, the Tang opens a new exhibition, “Where Words Falter: Art and Empathy,” which presents art from the Tang collection and explores how we define, practice, and experience compassion and connection.
This summer’s Stewart’s Signature Series features a Skidmore Jazz Institute Faculty All-Stars tribute to George Wein as part of the Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival at SPAC; Kenny Barron Trio at Arthur Zankel Music Center; Grammy-nominated Tia Fuller, with Intersections, at Caffe Lena; and literary readings. Made possible through a generous grant from Stewart’s Shops and the Dake Family, the lineup celebrates community and collaborations with local partners.
The NYS Summer Writers Institute will virtually host over 120 students from across the country in July. Readings by renowned faculty and visiting writers will also be offered virtually. The SITI Summer Theater Workshop is virtually welcoming 55 theater professionals from 17 countries this June. SITI Company will be in residence, teaching classes and broadcasting public events live. Though the Skidmore Jazz Institute is on hiatus this summer, the program will produce an in-person Concert Series.
