Lisa M Gill was a Fulbright Scholar for the German Commission 2010/2011. She earned
a Ph.D. in American Studies (2010) from the Department of American Studies at University
of Maryland, College Park. Her research interests are in African American Studies,
Popular culture, and Media Studies. Ms. Gill's recent article, "Making the Invisible
Visible: The Public Persona of Malcolm X," was published in the edited volume, Pictorial
Cultures. Additional, Ms. Gill has recently published a review for Amerikastudien/American
Studies Quarterly. Her dissertation titled, "From Homeboy to Icon: The Image transformation
of Malcolm X, 1965-1999," explored the transformation of the public image of Malcolm
X after his assassination until the issuance of the U.S. postal stamp, in 1999.
