October staff meeting recap

October 12, 2022

President Marc Conner and administrators briefed Skidmore staff about College goals in the new academic year and discussed ways to improve monthly staff meetings moving forward.

President Conner noted that the 2022-23 academic year was off to a good start with a range of academic, athletic, artistic, and DEI programming, including In It 7, underway. He also expressed cautious optimism about Skidmore’s COVID-19 numbers.

"I’m hearing from everyone just how marvelous it is that we're having all these events, all these activities, that we’re coming together, doing some of the things again that a college community is all about,” he said at the Oct. 7 meeting, which was held in person in Murray-Aikins Dining Hall and online via Zoom. “The feel on campus is so much different than the feel of the last few years.”

The president also outlined this year’s Strategic Action Agenda, five priorities for the College based on Skidmore’s strategic plan. The priorities are:

  • Skidmore’s Racial Justice Initiative
  • Vice presidential searches as outlined on a new website, which offers information about each position.
  • Freedom of speech and expression and associated challenges.
  • Continuing discussion about values and visions and what makes Skidmore unique.
  • Next steps in the Campus Master Planning process.

Title IX Coordinator Joel Aure also offered a brief overview of Title IX reporting responsibilities and available resources. Strategic HR Advisor Sarah Delaney Vero and Director of Human Resources Julie Delay introduced members of the HR team

Staff members then held discussions, both online and in person, about ways that the staff meetings support Skidmore’s mission and how the monthly meetings may be improved moving forward. Employees who were unable to attend the meeting, or who participated virtually, are invited to fill out this form to share their feedback, ideas, or comments.

The next staff meeting is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4.
