Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and its worldwide economic impact, members of Skidmore’s Class of 2020 are finding fulfilling success and demonstrating remarkable achievement in pursuing employment, education and other opportunities after graduation, a new report from the College’s Career Development Center shows.

The Summer Experience Fund (SEF) Awards accept applications in its 13th year, now awarding more than 100 students in funding to pursue unpaid summer experiences. Application deadline for 2021 is March 29 at 11:59 a.m.

Starting and navigating higher education can be overwhelming to anyone and particularly first generation college students. Here is some advice from staff at Skidmore's Career Development Center who were first gen themselves.

The College for Social Innovation has embarked on a new, exciting pilot program with Skidmore for Fall 2020. A Skidmore student will be selected to participate in an all expenses-paid, transformative 15-week program that gives undergraduate students the opportunity to spend a semester in Boston learning hands-on through well-supported internships in the social sector. Open to all majors, Semester in the City works with students to place them in an internship aligned with their interests, be it criminal justice reform, education, gender equality, environmental sustainability, or beyond. While every placement will be a little different, each Fellow will have a dedicated mentor to help them thrive.

Skidmore’s Summer Experience Fund (SEF) provides a $4,000 stipend to support students completing an unpaid summer experience, which can include an internship, volunteer opportunity, research assignment, community service project, artists residency, apprenticeship and more. Over the 12 years of the program, SEF Award winners have come from all academic disciplines to pursue opportunities in industries and countries throughout the world. Workshops have been scheduled to assist students in applying for the 2020 award cycle.

Health Monitor Network, led by Skidmore alumnus, Ken Freirich '90, will participate in Skidmore Recruitment Day on February 28 in New York City. The award-winning health marketing company is promoting job opportunities within their agency to members of the Class of 2020.
