Volunteering can be a great way for you to learn about yourself, boost your resume, expand your network, and stand out in future application processes. Students can also hone communication and problem solving skills, gain cultural competence, and create positive change in the world. Sounds pretty good, right? Future employers and graduate schools will think so too. Knowing where to find community service projects, particularly in the COVID-19 era, can be a challenge.     The College for Social Innovation has embarked on a new, exciting pilot program with Skidmore for Fall 2020. A Skidmore student will be selected to participate in an all expenses-paid, transformative 15-week program that gives undergraduate students the opportunity to spend a semester in Boston learning hands-on through well-supported internships in the social sector. Open to all majors, Semester in the City works with students to place them in an internship aligned with their interests, be it criminal justice reform, education, gender equality, environmental sustainability, or beyond. While every placement will be a little different, each Fellow will have a dedicated mentor to help them thrive.

    Skidmore’s Summer Experience Fund (SEF) provides a $4,000 stipend to support students completing an unpaid summer experience, which can include an internship, volunteer opportunity, research assignment, community service project, artists residency, apprenticeship and more. Over the 12 years of the program, SEF Award winners have come from all academic disciplines to pursue opportunities in industries and countries throughout the world. Workshops have been scheduled to assist students in applying for the 2020 award cycle.
