Skidmore honors faculty, staff, and retirees

May 20, 2026

Skidmore faculty and staff gathered on Case Green on a warm, sunny day to celebrate the accomplishments of their colleagues during this year’s Retirement and Recognition Celebration.

The ceremony was led by General Counsel and Vice President for Human Resources Sarah Vero. Chief Human Resources Officer Julie Delay read the Recognition of Service Awardees and Thoroughbred Thanks recipients. Vice President for Strategic Planning and Institutional Diversity Joshua Woodfork led the Special Service Recognition portion of the event, and Director of Religious and Spiritual Life Parker Diggory paid tribute to community members who had passed away during the past year.

President Marc C. Conner, who was leading a travel seminar in Ireland and was unable to attend, shared his gratitude in a video message emailed to employees.

I’m deeply grateful for all you have done and continue to do to make our college such a special place. You have helped write Skidmore’s story of ascent, and I know you share my excitement for all we can continue to accomplish together in the years ahead.”

This year’s ceremony honored 22 individuals who retired during the 2025-26 academic year.

Several faculty and staff members were also recognized as President’s Award recipients: Carolyn Lundy, academic administrative assistant for neuroscience, physics, and the IdeaLab; Mariel L. Martin, director of the Wyckoff Center; Cathy Hill (1962–2026), teaching professor of management and business; and Bob Turner, associate professor of political science.

The Middle States Steering Committee — Natalie Taylor, Kelly Sheppard, Amy Tweedy, Joshua Woodfork, Julia Routbort Baskin, Beau Breslin, and Joe Stankovich — received the team award.

Daniel Hurwitz marked an impressive 50 years with the College, while John Birdsall was honored for 45 years of service. Catherine Golden and Lori Parks were among those celebrated for their remarkable 40-year tenures. Barbara Black, Maria McColl, Dwayne Parks, and Jeanne Sisson were also recognized for 35 years of dedicated service.

“When I think about what makes Skidmore a great place to work, it is hands down our people. The folks who work at Skidmore are special — they care about each other, our students, and the College’s educational mission. The staff and faculty here don’t just work here; they dedicate their time, skill, compassion, and careers to this college,” said Sarah Vero, general counsel and vice president for human resources.
