Lecture:Frege and the Paradox of Analysis
Guest Speaker: Dr. Sanford Shieh
Date: Mon. Nov. 2, 1009
Time: 7:30 - 9:30 PM
Location: Pohndorff Room - Skidmore Library
Sanford Shieh from Wesleyan University discussed the paradox of analysis in the context
of Gottlob Frege's thought. Professor Shieh showed that the overall purpose of Frege's famous analysis of number
is far less apparent than is commonly believed. But this is not to say that Frege's project is a failure: Shieh argued that Frege
can be understood as successfully providing a definition of number that is consistent
with actual mathematical practice
