Alfred Robert Stiassney

Alfred Robert Stiassney, a four-decade staff member, died February 2, 2014, in Saratoga Springs. He was 95.

Al was born in 1919 in New York City and moved to Saratoga Springs as a young boy. After serving in the Combat Engineers for the Army, he worked at Skidmore from 1940 to 1981. He was union president and served on the SEIU Local 200 executive board.

Al was also a desk sergeant at the Saratoga Racecourse for 39 summers. He was the president of the Saratoga County Dart League throughout the 1960s and ‘70s and a member of Bethesda Episcopal Church.

Outside of work, he loved taking trips to Atlantic City, Myrtle Beach, Cape Cod, and Florida. Other favorite pastimes were betting the ponies and rooting for the Mets.

His wife, Marion, predeceased him in 2002. His faithful dog Bella survived him, along with his three children, 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grands, and one great-great-granddaughter.
