Richard H. Page
Associate Professor of Psychology Emeritus Richard H. Page, a dedicated scholar and teacher of psychology and the liberal arts, died peacefully on March 28, 2022. He was 89.
Richard, who lived in Willsboro, New York, served the College from 1959 until his retirement in 1988.
“Richard Page was a fine psychologist, professor, and colleague. He had wide-ranging interests, including the study of the evolution of intelligence. Richard was also a devoted teacher of psychology and the liberal arts,” said Professor of Psychology Sheldon Solomon. “He was a great colleague as well, making me feel welcome to and comfortable at Skidmore when I arrived in 1980 and encouraging me to pursue my own interests as a young professor.”
Since 1978, Richard had been studying the emergence of intelligence in the universe. He believed that fundamental particles and forces were similar to neural activities in living brains; he continued this research into retirement. Richard was also an accomplished pianist.
Born in Troy in 1933, he graduated from Union College in 1955. He completed master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Maryland in 1958 and 1966 respectively.
Richard is survived by his wife Inna Page and his children Douglas, Elaine, Lawrence, Andrew, and Sarah. Richard was predeceased by his brother John N. Page.
