In order to facilitate faculty engagement in research and scholarship at Skidmore College, the Office of Sponsored Research provides a host of resources and services to support investigators at all stages of their careers.
The Office of Sponsored Research assists faculty in finding appropriate funding mechanisms, both external grant and fellowship opportunities as well as internal funding opportunities. The Office of Sponsored Research also assists faculty with proposal development by ensuring proposal narratives are clear, concise and convincing, drafting budgets and budget narratives, providing relevant templates and handling the logistics of the proposal submission process to governmental agencies and private foundations. The office also works with the Office of the Dean of the Faculty/Vice President for Academic Affairs to secure matching funds from the college, engages with collaborating institutions to obtain and submit required proposal materials, and ensures proposals are compliant with guidance instructions, Skidmore policies and all federal and state regulations. The director of the Office of Sponsored Research is the signing official (SO) for eRA Commons and the authorized organizational representative (AOR) for FastLane and Grants.gov.
The Office of Sponsored Research also supports externally funded scholarship on the post-award side by negotiating research agreements with sponsors, securing approvals for material transfer agreements and handling intellectual property-related issues. The office also establishes and maintains subcontractor, consultant and MOU agreements. The office provides real-time project account management, ensures funding agency reporting and close-out requirements are met, and oversees Institutional Review Board and Institutional Animal Care programs and protocol reviews.
The Office of Sponsored Research looks forward to helping Skidmore faculty succeed in their research, scholarly and creative endeavors.
