Organizations and Awards

Psi Chi

Psychology majors who achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or higher in at least four psychology courses and a grade point average of 3.30 or higher in all college courses are eligible for induction into Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology.

Department Honors

Effective for all class years prior to 2019:

To be eligible for departmental honors in psychology, a student must (1) meet the requisite grade-point average (overall GPA = 3.0, major GPA = 3.50), (2) complete a research project in Senior Research Project I and II or a major paper in Senior Seminar (earning a grade of at least A- on the completed Senior Research II or Senior Seminar project) or have substantial experience with psychological science beyond the classroom, and (3) be recommended for departmental honors by the department.

Effective for the class of 2019 and on:

To be eligible for departmental honors in psychology, a student must (1) meet the requisite grade-point average, overall GPA of 3.0 and major GPA of 3.65, (2) complete a research project in Senior Research Project I and II or a major paper in Senior Seminar or have substantial experience with psychological science beyond the classroom, and (3) be recommended for departmental honors by the department.

In addition to Psi Chi and departmental honors, the department annually confers awards on a small number of students. The prizes and recent recipients are seen below:


The Amy Eisenberg '72 Memorial Award

Established by Mr. and Mrs. Stanford E. Eisenberg in memory of daughter, Amy Eisenberg '72, and awarded to a junior or senior who submits a proposal for research in educational psychology.

The Foley Psychology Department Research Fund Prize

Established by Professors Hugh and Mary Ann Foley to honor Hugh's parents, Griffin and Wanda Foley, for their belief in the value of higher education. The fund will provide support for one or more junior psychology majors who will be conducting thesis research in the senior year.
