Skidmore Retirees

Theresa Alice Stevens

Theresa “Teri” Alice Stevens, who served the Office of Admissions for more than two decades, died June 10, 2020. She was 90.

Teri, who served as a file clerk from 1970 until her retirement in 1992, was perhaps best known for entertaining others in her other job as a professional clown.

“Teri was faithful and loyal to Skidmore and continued to attend Skidmore events well into her retirement,” said Mary Lou Bates, vice president and dean of admissions and financial aid. “She was a very creative individual and her interests, passions and hobbies outside work were many and varied, ranging from automotive welding to the successful clowning business she ran for many years.”

A lifelong resident of Saratoga County, Teri was born March 24, 1930, and grew up in Schuylerville, graduating from Schuylerville High School in 1947. In 1949, she married James E. Stevens Jr.

She was predeceased by her husband; her youngest son, Patrick; her sister, Matilda DiNovo; and her cousin, Leona Mayton.

She is survived by three children, Thomas of Dallas, Texas, Karen of Hoosick Falls and Joseph (Janie) of Bothell, Washington; one brother, Leo Hebert of Vero Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, Cindy Stevens (Josh) Thenhaus of Renton, Washington, and Robert Stevens (Rachel) of Mill Creek, Washington; two step-grandchildren, Ryan Orth (Gail) of Burien, Washington, and Christa Orth (Ali Cotterill) of Brooklyn; five great-grandchildren, Leilah and Jaidyn Thenhaus, Garnet and Edgar Orth, and Rhiannon Stevens; and two nephews.
