Office of Sponsored Research

Reflections in Haupt Pond

The mission of the Office of Sponsored Research is to provide faculty members with the support and resources needed to fund and manage their creative, scholarly, and research endeavors. The Office provides high-quality services to the Skidmore community with the goal of increasing externally sponsored funding for individual faculty research while also ensuring compliance with College and sponsor policies and regulations.

In order to facilitate faculty engagement in research and scholarship at Skidmore College, the Office of Sponsored Research provides a host of resources and services to support investigators at all stages of their careers.

The Office of Sponsored Research assists faculty in identifying funding opportunities, drafting budgets and budget justifications, providing relevant boilerplates and templates (facilities, equipment and other resources, biographical sketches, current and pending support, institutional impact statements, etc.) and handling the logistics of the proposal submission process to federal and state agencies and private foundations. The Office also reviews research narratives for grammar and typos and provides feedback regarding strengths and weaknesses as they relate to the review criteria. The Office engages with collaborating institutions to obtain and/or submit required proposal materials (statements of work, letters of collaboration, budgets, budget justifications, etc.), and ensures proposals are compliant with guidance instructions, Skidmore policies and federal and state regulations. The director is the signing official (SO) for eRA Commons and the authorized organizational representative (AOR) for Research.gov and Grants.gov.

The Office of Sponsored Research also supports externally funded scholarship on the post-award side by negotiating research, service and subaward agreements from sponsors, issuing and amending subaward and consultant agreements, and processing supply orders and reimbursement requests. The Office also reconciles grant accounts on a monthly basis, provides budget projections, and assists with no-cost extension requests. The Office ensures funding agency reporting and close-out requirements are met (progress and financial reports) and ensures grants are performed and expended in a manner consistent with the proposed budget, Skidmore policies, and terms of the award.

The Office of Sponsored Research looks forward to helping Skidmore faculty succeed in their research, scholarly and creative endeavors.
