The International Affairs (IA) Program at Skidmore stands apart for its far-reaching liberal arts focus on intersecting spheres — the political, economic, cultural, and physical worlds — and the flexibility to tailor your experience. Learn beyond the classroom through faculty-student research, internships, study abroad, guest speakers, clubs, and EU and UN simulations.
The major is centered on four core courses: IA 101, Research Methods, Special Topics in International Affairs, and the Senior Seminar. You’ll also learn a foreign language, study abroad, and take at least one foundational course in each of four areas: “The Political World,” “The Cultural World,” “The Economic World,” and “The Physical World.”
To build depth in an area that interests you, you’ll also complete an approved second major, minor, or regional concentration of at least 18 credits. From there, choose electives that help you shape your International Affairs major around your interests and goals.
Alumni have found their calling in diplomacy, policy research, the arts, education, finance, corporate strategy, and public service, with many working in internationally oriented organizations.
