Suggested Format for Assessment Plans and Reports
Every department and program should have an assessment plan in place; the plan should be updated periodically to make sure it reflects what you're actually doing. Assessment reports are due every year on June 30. Please email the assessment facilitator (Lisa Christenson) with any questions.
Assessment Plan:
- Mission statement for the department
- List of student learning goals or outcomes
- An assessment method tied to each goal/outcome (can be direct or indirect, quantitative or qualitative, and one assessment method can serve many goals)
- A plan for how the results of assessment will be used to improve student learning (e.g., changes to pedagogies, curriculum, learning outcomes)
This plan can be very brief and should reflect what you're actually doing.
Please see other departmental plans and reports or go to Assessment at Other Colleges for examples of plans if you need help.
Assessment Report:
The assessment report format is similar to that of the plan:
- Mission statement for the department
- List of student learning goals or outcomes
- An assessment method tied to each goal/outcome (can be direct or indirect, quantitative or qualitative, and one assessment method can serve many goals)
- Aggregated results of assessment for the year
- Description of how the results of assessment are being used to improve student learning (e.g., changes to pedagogies, curriculum, learning outcomes)
