OCM leads Skidmore’s public-facing digital presence, including the College website, flagship social media channels, mass email platforms, digital signage, and related standards.

We partner with campus offices to create effective, accessible, audience-centered digital communications while maintaining the quality, consistency, and governance of official Skidmore channels.

Web

OCM manages Skidmore’s primary public website, Skidmore.edu, as well as the College’s divisional websites, including SkidmoreShop.com and SkidmoreAthletics.com. We oversee public-facing web content, provide training and consultation for campus partners, support ticketed updates, and work closely with Information Technology to maintain and improve Skidmore’s web infrastructure.

OCM has final editorial approval for content published on official College web pages, including text, images, links, and video.

Student website access

Student workers may edit office or department websites after completing CMS training, subject to availability. Access is typically granted for one semester. Supervisors may request limited access or extend access through the OCM Web Help Ticketing system.

Social media

OCM-managed flagship channels are official College channels for broad institutional storytelling and announcements. Other Skidmore-affiliated accounts may serve specific departments, programs, teams, or communities, but they are not official sources for College-wide announcements unless confirmed by OCM.

Before creating a social media account

Before creating a new Skidmore-affiliated social media account, contact OCM. We can help determine whether an existing College channel can meet your goals or whether a separate account is appropriate.

Student-run accounts for recognized clubs and organizations should follow student organization processes and work with their adviser or student government. Accounts for academic projects should be created in consultation with the faculty member overseeing the work.

All Skidmore-affiliated accounts are subject to College review and must follow College policies, brand standards, platform rules, accessibility guidelines, FERPA, copyright requirements, and applicable laws.

Email

OCM manages specialized platforms for mass email and provides guidance on broad internal and external email communications. College-wide email is reserved for messages with institutional relevance, urgency, or strategic importance. Access to mass email platforms is limited to trained and approved departments.

For major institutional messages, emergency communications, leadership communications, or broad external email campaigns, contact OCM for guidance.

Skidmore Weekly Bulletin

To reduce internal email volume, announcements for current students, faculty, or staff should generally be submitted to the Skidmore Weekly Bulletin rather than sent as separate mass emails.

Submissions should be timely, relevant to a broad campus audience, and appropriate for inclusion in a weekly internal digest.

Digital signage

OCM manages digital signage across campus and supports departments in sharing timely, relevant content. Digital signage should be used for messages that are appropriate for a broad campus audience and aligned with College standards for accessibility, accuracy, branding, and visual quality.
