Non-Tenure-Track FACULTY:  GUIDELINES ON ASSEMBLING MATERIALS FOR
REAPPOINTMENT AND PROMOTION

These guidelines summarize conventions regarding the assembling of materials for reappointment and promotion. They have been developed by the Office of the Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs (DOF/VPAA).  They are based on the guidelines for assembling materials for tenure, with appropriate modifications.  These Guidelines are intended to effectuate the standards for reappointment and promotion found in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Article XXIV, Section 10.

The materials you present and the manner in which they are assembled convey your professional narrative to your department(s) or program and the Office of the DOF/VPAA. While your department or program colleagues will likely be familiar with your discipline (although not always), the Office of the DOF/VPAA includes colleagues outside of your discipline, so it is important to keep all of these audiences in mind while assembling your materials.

Non-tenure-track faculty will be reappointed in the absence of good cause not to reappoint.  Eligibility for promotion is set forth in the CBA, Article XXIV, Section 2.1, p. 44.  The criteria for promotion are set forth in the CBA, Article XXIV, Section 10, p. 46-49.  Evaluation for promotion will vary based on the nature of the appointment (teaching professor, artist-in-residence, writer-in-residence, librarian) but generally is based on teaching effectiveness (other than for librarians), professional development and achievement, and service.

You control your file:  use any supporting evidence that you believe help you make your best case for promotion.
